Devin Siebold is a graduate of Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL, where he was part of the first group of teacher graduates to get full ELL certification prior to even receiving a diploma. Devin then became an educator for Title I schools in Florida for over a decade. His mastery of teaching English Language Learners led him to become grade chair while teaching in schools with only 10% native English speaking students.
During his summers he was the Head Counselor at a Summer camp attended by children from over 30 different countries, leading a staff with backgrounds of over 10 different languages. Throughout his time teaching and working at the camp, he recalls his experiences with student refugees of the war in Syria, taking on students escaping political turmoil in Haiti, and doubling his class size to accommodate the Puerto Rican students displaced by Hurricane Maria. In his studies and teaching, he discovered the universal language: laughter. He found ways to incorporate laughter into the classroom and the community that broke down language barriers needed to help both students and staff.
Teachers will recognize Devin as the hilarious comedian from Tik Tok, Youtube, and Facebook, including headlining the popular Bored Teachers International Comedy Tour, and administrators have come to know him as the "best speaker we've had in all my 30 years." Devin delivers non-stop laughs, and shows teachers how laughter can not only change their mindset, but also the mindset of those around them. He discusses building classroom community and culture around humor, the science of healing and mental-wellness through laughter, and even gives a powerful lesson on conquering negativity.
The title of Devin's keynote is "Laughter in the Lesson"
