Centro MundoLengua Scholarship for AP Teachers in Spain

Centro MundoLengua is offering one scholarship for either the AP Language or for the AP Literature Summer Institute.


AP Spanish Language
The purpose of this 2-week workshop is to familiarize participants with the AP curriculum, resources and program goals, as well as the AP exam and its grading. You will learn strategies for assessing your students’ progress in Spanish, and will create and share new activities for speaking, listening, writing and reading. In short, this program will help you to modify your existing curricula and methodology, putting you on the path to articulating or improving your own Spanish-language AP program.


AP Spanish Literature
The purpose of this 2-week workshop is to familiarize participants with the revised AP Spanish Literature and Culture curriculum, resources and program goals, as well as the new AP exam and its grading. You will learn strategies for assessing your students’ progress in Spanish, and will create and share new activities. This program will help you to design new curricula or modify your existing course.


Classes 
The program includes 35 hours of classes (10:00am-2:00pm, 30 minute break included). All teachers will receive a certificate from the College Board. Teachers also have included a course packet of materials from the CB, as well as Centro MundoLengua´s own AP materials created specifically for their student AP program.


Credits 
Centro MundoLengua has partnered with the University of California at Riverside. UC Riverside has offered up to 3 semester graduate university credits for an additional cost of $325 total (cost 2012).


Activities 
Cultural visits to the most important monuments in Seville are planned, whereby teachers will experience firsthand Spanish culture and the history of Seville. Also included is a welcome breakfast and farewell dinner.


Housing 
Teachers have the option of either living with a Spanish family with full room and board (3 meals daily).


Dates 
Arrival date with housing in a family: June 23, 2014 
Departure date with housing in a family: July 6, 2014 during the morning 
First day of class: June 24, 2014 
Last day of class: July 5, 2014


Scholarship value: The scholarship is valued at $1950.


The scholarship would cover the cost of either AP Spanish Language or AP Spanish Literature, with housing in a family. It does not include the UC Riverside credits, flight to Spain, nor personal spending money.
After completing this experience in 2013, the recipient is required to present a session at the 2014 Central States Conference, sharing information and materials obtained from the experience. 
Scholarship candidates must be members of the CSCTFL Advisory Council.

 

Cemanahuac Educational Community in Mexico Scholarship

This scholarship is intended to provide an immersion experience for a teacher in a public or private K-12 Spanish program who has shown professional commitment to, and sustained involvement in, the teaching of Spanish language and culture. The dollar value of this award in 2014 will be $1097.00, and includes registration, tuition for two weeks, housing (double occupancy) with all meals, and one all-day field study trip. Other expenses, in addition to airfare, that the recipient would have to cover on his/her own would be transfer to Cuernavaca (about $15 each way), a textbook ($35) and personal expenses. The recipient can attend any program at the Cemanahuac Educational Community in Mexico anytime during 2014.


After completing this experience, the recipient is required to present a session at the 2014 Central States Conference, sharing information and materials obtained from the experience. Preference for this award will be given to non-native speakers of Spanish.
Scholarship candidates must be members of the CSCTFL Advisory Council.

 

Universidad Internacional: Center for Linguistic Multicultural Studies

This scholarship is intended to provide an immersion experience for a teacher in a public or private K-12 Spanish program who has shown professional commitment to, and sustained involvement in, the teaching of Spanish language and culture. This scholarship includes the registration fee and two weeks of class instruction (3 hours per day) at the Universidad Internacional in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Note that the recipient of the scholarship is responsible for transportation to the study site, lodging and for personal expenses. The recipient can attend any program at the Universidad Internacional anytime during 2014.


After completing this experience in 2013, the recipient is required to present a session at the 2014 Central States Conference, sharing information and materials obtained from the experience.
Scholarship candidates must be members of the CSCTFL Advisory Council. 

 

Academia Latinoamericana de Español

July 7 to 20, 2014


This scholarship is a two-week Spanish language immersion experience or Indigenous Andean Culture or
Regional Literature course, including a home stay and four (4) hours of instruction. In case no group is formed,
the participant will receive three hours of private instruction per day. Teachers can apply for Graduate credits if
they need it through the New Mexico State University. The program can consist of two weeks in the Imperial city of Cusco. The scholarship recipient must teach in grades 11-12 or at the university level. Selection Criteria: Preference for this award will be given to non-native speakers of Spanish. The package includes registration, tuition for two weeks, housing with a host family (double occupancy), breakfast and lunch each day, laundry service once a week. Other expenses include dinners, round-trip travel to Cusco, and personal expenses.


After completing this experience, the recipient is required to present a session at the 2014 Central States Conference, sharing information and materials obtained from the experience. Preference for this award will be given to non-native speakers of Spanish.

Estudio Sampere- Course for Non-Native Spanish Teachers

Spanish teachers: who are we and what are our classes like?
This course is designed for Spanish teachers who want to refresh their knowledge or to incorporate new methodologies, classroom activities and materials.  The objective is to acquire new ideas and share teaching experiences. The course is taught in Spanish. Students need to have at least a high-intermediate (B2) level of Spanish. The course is divided into four areas.


Students will learn how to determine students; language ability, planning of courses and objectives, and assessing courses, such as how and when to set an exam. Methodology includes presenting and analyzing different teaching methods, presenting, studying textbooks, teaching materials, classroom materials (including the board, projector, music, films) and creating materials for classes. Teaching Spanish grammar is possible by presenting, studying and implementing the most important topics in Spanish grammar, such as Ser or Estar. Estar or Hay, or Por or Parad, Imperfecto or Indefinidoe, Indicativo or Subjuntivo. Teaching practices including teaching strategies, observing classes, and analyzing and commenting on observed lessons. It includes the Tuition, registration Fee, materials and activities during the stay. The teacher needs to pay the accommodation (host family or Shared apartment).


Host family (single room and half board): 205 €/ week
Shared apartment, single room no meals: 150€ / week

After completing this experience, the recipient is required to present a session at the 2014 Central States Conference, sharing information and materials obtained from the experience.  Preference for this award will be given to non-native speakers of Spanish.
Scholarship candidates must be members of the CSCTFL Advisory Council.

 

ELIGIBILITY FOR ALL CSCTFL SCHOLARSHIPS:

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:


1. Scholarship candidates must be members of the CSCTFL Advisory Council
2. be a practicing teacher with a teaching load of at least 50% in the foreign language department;
3. teach in the Central States Conference region;
4. be willing to present a 60-minute session at the 2013 Central States Conference.


Other selection criteria include:


1. professional commitment and significant involvement in the teaching of a foreign language (conference/
workshop participation, curriculum development) listed in a current professional resume or curriculum
vitae (Note: participation in the Central States organization and/or attendance at past conferences will be
advantageous and should be noted);
2. evidence of how the experience will enhance his/her teaching explained in a written statement of not
more than 200 words; and
3. evidence of institutional support in the form of a letter of endorsement from an administrator or
department chairperson.
