The 2010 Founders Award for Professional Excellence in Language Education
Laura Terrill
With more than 30 years in the education profession, Laura Terrill has taught French at all levels K-12, curriculum development at the university level, and served as administrator as well. She was named National District Supervisor of the Year in 2005 for her contributions as district supervisor in the Parkway School District in Missouri. She served at Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana prior to her recent retirement.
Laura’s contributions to foreign language organizations are also impressive. She was President of the Foreign Language Association of Missouri in 1983, has served on the Central States Board of Directors from 1994-2006, including Program Chair for the 1999 conference and ACTFL Delegate, and was the ACTFL Convention Program Chair in 2006. She is a presenter par excellence who is frequently requested as keynote speaker as well. Her presentations focus on topics meant to help teachers become better teachers.
“Laura is a proven leader and pacesetter in foreign language education.”
--Janine Erickson, 2009 ACTFL President
“Her name as a session or workshop presenter is a guarantee that the topic will be fresh, the ideas practical, and the insights thoughtful and often humorous.”
--Donna Clementi, Concordia Language Villages
“Laura’s influence has definitely shaped me as a teacher and language educator. Laura is a true language ambassador, highly deserving of the Central States Founders Award.”
--Paul Sandrock, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction
